Mum and son die in Chesterfield crash as police seek BMW driver

A mother and son have died in a car crash near Chesterfield[1]. The woman, 59, died at the scene, while the son, aged 22, was pronounced dead later in hospital. The incident occurred on B5057 Chesterfield Road between Chesterfield and Matlock after 10am on Saturday (December 9).

A man, aged 40, is in police custody having been arrested. Officers are still seeking the driver of a black BMW who left the scene. In a statement, Derbyshire[3] Constabulary said: “A mother and son have died after a vehicle collided with their car, a Fiat 500, on the B5057 Chesterfield Road between Chesterfield and Matlock, on Saturday 9 December at around 10.20am.

A 59-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her son, who was 22-years-old, later died at hospital after being taken there by air ambulance. “A 40-year-old man has been arrested and remains in police custody. The driver of the vehicle, a black BMW, made off from the scene and remains outstanding, officers are carrying out investigations to trace him.
