Mum’s heartbreak as ‘gorgeous boy’ died falling into Leeds river on …

A grieving mum has spoken of her “heartbreak” after her “gorgeous boy” died after falling into the River Aire after a works night out in Leeds city centre[1]. Marcus Gary Castle, 29, fell into the river in what has been described by his mum Katrina as a “terrible accident” in the early hours of Monday morning (December 18). The Bramley man was a team leader for TK Maxx at the clothing retailer’s store on the Headrow.

He was pulled from the canal, near Armouries Way, by emergency crews who “got his pulse back, it was faint but it was there,” according to mum Katrina. Leeds General Infirmary staff then attempted for hours to get him back to health. Katrina said: “The damage to his brain and organs was too severe, our beautiful boy left us at 11am yesterday.”

Speaking to Leeds Live, she added: “He was a much loved brother and son, he was my baby boy, I was there for his breath and I was there for his last. He was shy till you got to know him, then just fill of fun and banter, loved his car, music and gaming.” Katrina, who is a full time carer, dad Gary and brothers Lewis and Callum are now mourning his loss.

Katrina says they will struggle to pay for his funeral arrangements and have launched a crowdfunder for anyone who can help. Katrina has said: “If we could pay for it we would but we didn’t plan on burying one of our boys. I am a full time career to Marcus’s autistic younger brother and his dad who has had heart surgery a few months ago.

“Many thanks for reading. RIP gorgeous boy I hope you know how much you were loved. Sleep well beautiful boy.”

The crowdfunder on Go Fund Me can be accessed, here[3].
