A heartbroken mum has said her 'world is shattered' after her 15-year-old son died in a horror car crash[1]. Police were called to the scene of the three-car smash[2] on the A192 in Cramlington, Northumberland at about 9.30pm on Friday. The cars involved were a Suzuki Vitara, a Range Rover Evoque and a Ford Focus.

Connor Lapworth, 18, from Blyth, Northumberland, died at the scene, and Corey Mavin, 15, also from Blyth, died from his injuries the following day.

Three other people were also taken to hospital. In an emotional post on Facebook[3] on Christmas[4] Eve, Corey's mother Lisa Mavin spoke of her grief on losing her son, writing: "My world is shattered... I keep looking into his room expecting to see him there."

She went on to write: "I thought I heard him cough, his little brother asked if that was his voice he heard...

I've never known pain like this. The last time I heard from him was 13.55pm that day... I wish it was me but instead I lay next to my boy while his heart took its last beat"

Northumbria Police[5] confirmed that the families of both victims are being supported by specialist Family Liaison Officers. Bunches of brightly coloured flowers appeared at the scene of the collision on Christmas Eve as local people paid tribute to Connor and Corey.

A 41-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy who were in the Suzuki suffered serious injuries in the collision, and were admitted to hospital where they remained on Sunday. A 36-year-old woman who was driving the Range Rover also sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital, while the 52-year-old female driver of the Ford Focus was left uninjured.

Sergeant Russell Surrey, of Northumbria Police's Motor Patrols department, said: "This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are firmly with the family and loved ones of the two young people who have sadly lost their lives and those who have suffered injuries in this collision. We will offer them all of the support they need and ask that their privacy is respected at this time. Officers are now asking any witnesses to the incident to come forward."

Anyone who has dashcam footage of the area around the time of the incident should also get in touch.

Your information, no matter how small you feel it may be, could help us to ascertain exactly what happened."
