The World Barn Police in New Hampshire say a man dressed in a Grinch costume was hospitalized after his car crashed into a local business Christmas night. The Exeter Police Department[1] said a Honda CRV, driven by a 31-year-old man, was traveling south on Newfields Road just before 6 p.m. local time on Monday when the vehicle went off the roadway.

The car damaged a mailbox, a sign and several lights in the yard in front of The Word Barn, according to police. The business said a honey stand was also damaged[2] in the crash. But the biggest shock came when the driver exited the vehicle. “Imagine our surprise when we raced outside to assist and found…the Grinch!?!” The Word Barn wrote in a post on its Facebook page.

Photos of the scene show the man — dressed head-to-toe as the Grinch — sitting in the front seat of the CRV shortly after the crash. Police said the Exeter man in the Grinch costume “became distracted near a curve in the road” prior to the crash. “This was certainly a unique situation,” Police Chief Stephan Poulin said, per the department’s Facebook post.
