KEENE, N.H. — New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu formally endorsed Presidential candidate Nikki Haley last Wednesday during a Town Hall event in Keene. Over 100 people attended the event, which opened at the Best Western Hotel ahead of New Hampshire’s January First in the Nation Primary.
Sununu welcomed the former South Carolina Governor and United States ambassador to the United Nations, saying he is “One hundred and twenty percent behind Nikki Haley.”

13, 2023. Wednesday’s event followed Sununu’s initial endorsement during Haley’s Tuesday evening Town Hall in Manchester, N.H. “She has, without a doubt, unequivocally the best resume out of anyone.
She understands accountability. She’s balanced budgets. She drained the swamp in South Carolina,” noted Sununu. “She understands that Live Free or Die is more than just words on a license plate.
It defines who we are. Low taxes, limited government, local control and individual responsibility.” Sununu assured his audience that Nikki is New Hampshire’s best pick for the upcoming primary and that a Donald Trump victory in the state is not a given.
“The rest of the country has been told by the national media and been told by the pundits and been told by the leaders on the Republican side. Oh, it’s a complete failure. Trump’s gonna win.
Don’t worry about it. Don’t think so. When we bring this home for Nikki Haley in New Hampshire, it will be a complete reset button on the presidential campaign.”
Haley, 51, agreed with Sununu when talking poll numbers. “In all the general election polls, Biden and Trump are pretty much even. On a good day, [Trump] is up two points, and I’m in all of those same polls.
I’m up by 17 points over Biden. If we win like that, that’s so much bigger than the presidency,” Haley said. “That’s governorships, senate seats, house seats, and a mandate to get our economy back and start paying down this debt and a mandate to get our kids reading again and getting back to the basics in school.
It’s a mandate to say we’re going to secure our borders, no questions asked, and a mandate to support law and order. Think about what you’ll do with a win like that. We can have that.”
Haley emphasized the importance of keeping temperate Republicans in office to win the popular vote — a track record she thought the party should not be proud of. “Republicans have lost the last seven out of eight popular votes for President. That is nothing to be proud of, and we should want to win the majority of Americans, but the only way we’re going to win the majority of Americans is if we have a new generational leader who leaves the negativity and baggage behind,” Haley said, making a reference to former President Trump.
Haley said she agrees with Trump on many different policy issues and that he “was at the right place at the right time.” However, she argued that although she had a “great” working relationship with Trump, she found his demeanor as President to be “chaotic.” “The problem is, rightly or wrongly, chaos follows [Trump]. You know I’m right.
We can’t have a country in disarray and a world on fire and go through more years of chaos. We won’t survive it,” said Haley. Throughout her speech, Haley prioritized border security, tax cuts for small businesses, a smaller pre-COVID government budget, aid to Ukraine and Israel and revitalizing American industry and business.
Haley spoke of her accomplishments as former South Carolina governor when laying out a plan for her presidency. “We passed tort reform. We cut our taxes on small businesses, we cut taxes on veterans, we paid down our debts, we built up our coffers, and by the time I left, South Carolina was named the friendliest state in the country.”
She voiced her concern for “rollercoaster” omnibus spending deals passed by Congress, some of which were allocated to The University of Vermont. “Look at that £2.2 trillion COVID stimulus bill that they passed with no accountability, that expanded welfare that has now left us with 100 million Americans on Medicaid and forty-two million Americans on food stamps. That’s a third of our country.
And did Republicans try and make it right? No, they doubled down and opened up earmarks and pet projects for the first time in ten years, pushing through 7,000 of them last December. Want to know how they spent your money?
Thirty million dollars on an Honors College in Vermont, ten million to tear down a hotel in Alaska, seven and a half million on a courthouse in Colorado.” said Haley. She contrasted the spending to issues that American households face daily. “One in six American families can’t pay their utility bill; 60 percent of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, and 50 percent of American families can’t afford diapers.”
A solution she proposed was to cut spending, stop borrowing, and build up the middle class. “I will veto any spending bill that doesn’t take us back to pre-COVID levels,” Haley said. “Then we will open up the middle class. We will eliminate the federal gas and diesel tax in this country.
We’re going to cut taxes on the middle class and make the tax cuts on small businesses permanent. That’s how we’ll bring down inflation and get more money into your pockets.” “I’m running for president,” said Haley.
And I don’t need to tell you how bad things are. You don’t have to turn on the news to see it. You feel it when you go to your grocery store.
You feel it when you gas up your tank. You feel it with your mortgage payment, your insurance, payment and all of your necessities. Everything’s gotten higher,” said Haley.
“If you will join with me and Chris, I promise you our best days are yet to come.”
