No homicide charges filed in September’s deadly motorcycle crash near Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The investigation into a deadly motorcycle crash on Highway 6 near Lincoln in September[1] is complete, and nobody involved will face a motor vehicle homicide charge.

According to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, the Lincoln motorcyclist who was killed, 55-year-old Bradley Krutz, tested over the legal limit for alcohol and wasn’t wearing a proper helmet that met Department of Transportation safety standards[2].

The crash happened Sept.

21 on Highway 6 near the I-80 interchange outside of Waverly.

LSO said Krutz and a few other motorcyclists were riding toward Lincoln just before the crash when they came upon three cars who had slowed down in the roadway, getting ready to race.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said the motorcyclists laid their motorcycles on the ground to try and avoid getting hit by the cars, but Krutz lost control and crashed.

Krutz died at the scene; the other motorcycle riders had non-life threatening injuries.

The drivers of the three cars who were racing were ticketed for racing on a highway.
