Norfolk County resident charged in hit-and-run that killed teen boy

Ontario Provincial Police have arrested and charged a 35-year-old Norfolk County resident in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a teenaged boy last week. Dominik Short-Empey was walking with a friend along Fairground Road near the locality of Cultus shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Dec.

6 when he was struck by a pickup truck. Paramedics transported him to hospital with severe, life-threatening injuries.

He later died in hospital. Dominik was a mere two weeks away from his 15th birthday.

A GoFundMe[6] campaign has been launched to offset any financial burdens being faced by the family in the wake of the tragic incident. Since Thursday, over £11,000 has been raised. On Sunday, OPP said they had seized the truck believed to have been involved and had identified the driver of the vehicle.

Investigators say they arrested Nicholas Burtch of Norfolk County on Monday. He has been charged with failing to remain at an accident resulting in death. Police ask anyone with information about this incident to contact them at 1-888-310-1122.
