North Wales couple killed in crash with police car named
A North Wales couple who were killed in a crash with a police vehicle have been named. Teacher Nerys Jackson, 57, and her engineer husband John Jackson were killed when their Skoda Octavia was involved in a crash with the police crime scene investigation vehicle.[1] Mum-of-two Mrs Jackson is understood to have been working abroad and had made the trip back home to spend Christmas[2] with her family.
An inquest today heard how the couple were 50 miles from home when their car was in the tragic head-on collision with the police vehicle on a routine "non emergency" journey. The couple, of Bwlchgwyn in Wrexham[3], died on the A458 near Morville on Saturday, December 9.
A Gofundme appeal has been launched[6] by one of Mr Jackson's colleagues, David Bernard, to raise funds for the couple's funeral.
Writing on the page, Mr Bernard wrote: "Our colleague, John Jackson, and his wife, Nerys, sadly lost their lives on 9 December 2023. We, at Toray, want to help gather funds to support the family. Their son and daughter, Sam and Ffion, have agreed to our proposal and would like to make it clear that they will only use the money for funeral costs.
Any additional funds raised will be donated to the following charities that have supported them: Air Ambulance; BRAKE; and Fisher House Foundation." Chief Superintendent Gareth Morris, of West Mercia Police added: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man and woman following this awful incident, and our staff member who has been seriously hurt, at this difficult time. "We ask that their privacy is respected. I would also like to reassure the public that we have referred the incident to the IOPC." A full inquest is set to take place in April next year.
