Nunny’s Farm sadly closes for ‘foreseeable future’ amid flooding issues
A popular community farm in Grimsby[1] has closed for the foreseeable future due to flooding following the heavy rainfall. Situated on Wootton Road in Nunsthorpe[2], Nunny’s Farm has sadly been forced to close its doors after the grass and mud at the attraction now resembles “chocolate mousse” due to the heavy rain. Announcing the news on social media, the owners of the farm said they aim to open to the public again in February 2024.
The nursery at the site – Nunny’s Little Farmers Nursery – remains open. In a post to their Facebook page, a spokesperson for Nunny’s Farm wrote: “Unfortunately we are going to have to concede defeat to mother nature and shut our doors to the public visiting the farm for the foreseeable future, only Mini and Little Farmers are still on. “With the amount of rain we have had, the farm now resembles chocolate mousse more than grass and mud.
We will endeavour to open again in February ’24 but continue for updates.”

In a follow-up post, a spokesperson announced that the farm is now fundraising to invest in concrete mud control slabs in a bid to put a stop to the ongoing flooding issues. The post reads: “This year we have experienced some serious rainfall in March and July, and significant flooding in October, and it just keeps coming. “We know many of our visitors prefer our grass pathways over a sea of concrete as do we, however, the ground just cannot cope with the amount of water.
We would like to keep our pathways and make it accessible for visitors including pushchairs and wheelchairs to still visit us.

“We are asking for donations towards mud control slabs. It is GBP8.10 for just 1 slab, GBP32.40 for a sq metre or multiples of these. “We have tried cheaper versions which just don’t work against the heavy footed animals etc.
“We estimate approx 175 Sq metres (about 5 pallet loads) to cover the most affected areas which includes the cows’ hard standing too.
We know times are tough and we are truly grateful to everyone who donates to the animals here at the farm.”
You can donate to Nunny’s Farm via bank transfer to Nunny’s Farm CIC, sort code 20-63-28 and account number 70162175, with ‘Mud Control’ as the reference.
