One dead in Amity Township crash [Update]

6–A Birdboro man was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Route 422 in Amity Township Wednesday morning, officials said. The crash happened about 10:45 a.m. near North Monocacy Creek Road. It involved a dump truck towing a wood chipper, a tractor-trailer and an SUV.
The driver of the SUV, Lawrence Urban, 65, was pronounced dead at the scene by a deputy from the Berks County Coroner’s Office, police said. According to Amity police: A dump truck driven by Ryan Kardoley, 27, of Reading was traveling eastbound on Route 422 when Kardoley lost control of the vehicle just before North Monocacy Creek Road.
The dump truck crossed into the westbound lanes of Route 422 and crashed into the SUV driven by Urban. A tractor-trailer driven by William Daubert, 64, of Middleton, Del., that was also west bound on Route 422, then also struck Urban’s SUV. Kardoley and a passenger in the dump truck, Jordan Ruiz, 27, of Reading, were transported by ambulance to Reading Hospital.
Information on their conditions was not immediately available.
The westbound lanes of Route 422 were closed following the crash for nearly five hours, reopening around 3:30 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation.
