Person killed as scaffolding lorry overturns in South Gloucestershire
A person has died in a fatal crash in South Gloucestershire[1] after a lorry collided with the central reservation. Avon and Somerset Police is appealing for witnesses to come forward after the fatal incident shut the A4174 dual carriageway near Mangotsfield. The collision involved one vehicle, a scaffolding lorry, which crashed into the central reservation and overturned at around 5.25pm on Tuesday (December 5). Police[2] have confirmed that a passenger who was in the vehicle died at the scene and a 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in custody.
A specially trained officer is providing support to the dead person’s family as police investigate what happened. It is believed that no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The A4174 was closed in both directions between the Dramway and Siston Hill roundabouts while initial enquiries were carried out at the scene.
The road has now reopened northbound but remains closed southbound heading from Dramway towards Siston Hill. A spokesperson for South Gloucestershire Council said: “The road will remain closed until 6am tomorrow (December 7) for extensive repairs needed to resurface the carriageway and repair the vehicle restraint barrier.”
