The area where the car was could be (Image: Picture: GOOGLE STREETVIEW) Plans for a hand car wash behind a Middlesbrough social club have been given the green light, despite objections from nearby residents. Part of the car park behind North Ormesby Institute, on Ormesby Road in Park End, will be leased out by the club and used for the car wash.

The 95sq metre facility must operate between the hours of 9am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 5pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays. Four objections were received from nearby residents relating to noise, traffic matters and flood risk concerns. Planning officers, who recommended approval of the car wash, said any increase of traffic to the site will not be significant to the overall safety and capacity of Ormesby Road.

While some noise will be generated from the equipment used, including a pressure washer, Environmental Health did not object. A report said the distance between the car wash and the properties is “significant” – around 40 metres, and will reduce the impact of any noise. Concerns were also raised about aerosol vapours.

The report said they are not likely to reach the residential properties, or even the public footpaths which are located between the houses and the site.

Members of the planning committee of Middlesbrough Council agreed a car wash would be a good use for the site and unanimously approved the plans.
