Plans for new flats in Ardney Rise rejected in Norwich
The city council has rejected the proposals from Norwich-based SCK Developments to turn 2-2a Ardney Rise in Catton Grove into three one-bedroom flats. Officers said the scheme[1] failed to “provide a satisfactory level of residential amenity [or] natural light to the occupants”. They also argued the planned car parking and cycle storage – which would have made use of the existing off-road space to the front of the site – was unacceptable.
The two-storey property, near St Clement’s Park, has been vacant for 18 months and was last occupied by printing business Signs and Graphics. But the site has since become the target of frequent vandalism – with the front windows recently being smashed before being boarded up. The proposals would have seen the two flats established on the ground floor and one on the first.
Each home would have consisted of one bedroom, a bathroom and a spacious kitchen and living area.
Application documents submitted to the city council stated: “The building is an eyesore on what is a predominantly residential street.
“This proposal will bring a currently redundant site back into use, provide three new dwellings and significantly improve the street scene.”
