Police appeal following serious crash

POLICE are appealing for information after a motorist fled the scene following a collision on one of the main routes into the town centre. At 11.47pm on Tuesday, officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a grey Kia Sorento and a black Range Rover. It is reported that the Kia Sorento was travelling down Doncaster Road towards Barnsley town centre, when it collided with the Range Rover and crashed into a residential garden near St Joseph’s Gardens.

It is then reported that the driver of the Range Rover fled the scene, leaving the driver of the Kia Sorento, a 51-year-old woman, trapped. She was taken to hospital with serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening and remains in hospital. A spokesperson for the force said: “Doncaster Road was closed overnight and in the early hours of this morning but has since reopened after officers completed their work.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have dash-cam footage to come forward. “You can pass information to police via our new online live chat, our online portal or by calling 101. “Please quote incident number 1068 of December 5, 2023 when you get in touch.”
