Police called in as crews called to four Cheshire bin fires in eight hours

Firefighters were called out to four bin fires in just eight hours. And some of Saturday’s blazes in South Cheshire are being treated as deliberate with police made aware. Yesterday Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service sent engines to Crewe[1], Nantwich[2] and Congleton.

The first incident came at 2.20pm on Congleton’s Market Street where a a crew from the town found ‘a small fire involving a waste bin’. It was then firefighters from Crewe going to St Paul’s Close in the town at 7.35pm where ‘a wheelie bin had been set alight’. Around 30 minutes later and an engine from Crewe went to Nantwich’s Pillory Street for another bin fire.

Officials say that blaze was found to have been started by ‘smoking materials’. The final call, at around 10.10pm, came from Crewe’s Delamere[3] Street where the service believe a bin had been deliberately set alight. Witnesses should call Cheshire Police on 101.
