Police: Child struck by train in South Newton Thursday

Pennsylvania State Police reported they are investigating the death of a 15-month-old after the child was struck by a Norfolk Southern train in the 400 block of West Main Street in South Newton Township at 10:04 a.m. Thursday. Police did not provide any further details, and said the investigation remains ongoing.

The Union Pacific Railroad, its police force and other area law enforcement officers took train rides to observe motorists' behavior at railroad crossings in Fremont, Nebraska.

The goal of the exercise was to bring awareness of the dangers to drivers and pedestrians at railroad crossings.
