Police issue update as woman and three children rushed to hospital after crash

Police have issued an update after a woman and children were taken to hospital after a crash. Merseyside Police were called to Hoole Road in Woodchurch[1] at around 5pm on Monday, December 18, following reports of a two car crash. Once officers arrived at the scene they found a red Ford Fiesta, with two people inside, and a white Hyundai i10, with four people inside, had crashed.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene due to one woman being trapped inside the Hyundai. Crews cut off the roof of the car and were able to safely remove the woman inside. The woman and children were taken to hospital.

In an update today, police confirmed the woman was aged 39 and the children were all aged under 10. Merseyside Police[4] said yesterday one of the children had suffered serious injuries, however were later assessed as minor. The woman's and other children's injuries were classed as minor. A 22-year-old man from Upton[5] was later arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Hoole Road, Grasswood, Pemberton Road and Ferry Brow were closed while CCTV enquiries were being carried out in the area and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
