Police issue update on ‘phone call’ that sparked cordon in east Hull

Humberside Police have issued an update after they were seen searching a phone box in east Hull early this week. The phone box, in Barham Road, Bilton Grange, was cordoned off by officers on Monday. A witness at the scene also said that a van from the regional marine unit had arrived on Barham Road.

The same evening, police appealed for information about a phone call made from the phone box at 6.30pm on Sunday. Today, they reassured the community that a member of the public was identified and the circumstances surrounding the call have been explained. At this stage, they believe there have been no criminal offences committed.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police[1] said: “Earlier this week we issued an appeal for information to help us identify a member of the public who had made a call to us from a telephone box on Barham Road in Hull on Sunday 17 December. Since Sunday officers have been working to understand who made the call to us and to the establish the circumstances surrounding it. “As a part of those extensive enquiries a cordon was initially put in place at a telephone box, door to door and CCTV enquiries have also been conducted.

Following those lines of enquiry, we have now identified the member of the public and the circumstances surrounding the call and confirm that at this stage, we do not believe that any offences have been committed.”
