Police update as woman, 48, seriously injured after being hit by car
A driver who was arrested after a serious crash has been bailed by police. A woman was left seriously hurt after being hit by a car in south Manchester with the driver arrested on the scene. The 48-year-old woman was struck by the car at the junction of Kingsway and Wilmslow[1] Road in Didsbury[2] at around 5pm on November 29.
She was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, police said. Officers taped off a stretch of Kingsway[3] as investigations were carried out within the cordon. The driver of the car – a 40-year-old man – remained on the scene of the crash.
He was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police[6] confirmed in an update this morning. The force has now confirmed the driver has been bailed. Officers in GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit say they want to speak to any witnesses of the incident.
They also want to speak to anyone who has dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage, particularly from the junction of Kingsway and Parrs Wood Lane between 4.45pm and 5.10pm. In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “At around 5pm on (Wednesday 29 November 2023), officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on the junction of Kingsway (A34) and Wilmslow Road (A5145) in East Didsbury.

“Emergency services attended the scene, and a 48-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver remained at the scene and a 40-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
“GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam, mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision. “Particularly, anyone travelling the junction of Kingsway (A34) and Parrs Wood Lane (A5145) between 4:45pm and 5:10pm.
