Potatoes spilled in M5 crash given to food bank

Mr McJohnston, who is the project co-ordinator for Keystone, which helps people suffering economic or emotional hardship, said he had seen the news on social media.

He said the traffic in Cullompton had been “horrendous”.

“Once it had all cleared up we thought no more of it.

“I’d just left work on Thursday and I got a phone call from our church warden saying there was a lady, who I believe was the driver’s wife, who was offering some potatoes and could we use them for our various activities, so I said ‘yes please’.”

The potatoes were given to the food bank and have been used to make leek and potato soup for food bank users, he said.

One person was injured in the crash but they were not thought to be seriously hurt, police said.
