Prince Harry’s fresh blow as he’s portrayed as ‘jealous’ of brother William on The Crown
It seems you don’t need to be top of the Royal tree to succumb to the nightmare of an ‘annus horribilus’ – the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are navigating their own, right now. The Queen famously labelled 1992 her ‘worst year ever’ as she saw her adult children go through marriage upheaval, and witnessed her beloved Windsor Castle catch ablaze. While Prince Harry[1], 39, and Meghan Markle[2], 42, haven’t had any romantic upheaval or flaming buildings to deal with over the past twelve months, there have been plenty of other dramas to contend with including a family feud and career challenges.
And, as if things couldn’t get any worse, Harry hasn’t come off very well in the new series of The Crown, despite his close working relationship with Netflix[3]. Teenage Prince Harry is portrayed as jealous of his older, more handsome, sibling in the final series of The Crown.
And there were scenes aired which showed him dressed up as a Nazi at a ‘Colonials and Natives’ themed party[6]. Speaking to Heat magazine[7], a source said: “They went into [2023] with such high hopes, thinking they had finally proven themselves in Hollywood and escaped the shadow of the royal family. But these scandals just blew up out of nowhere, tearing their image to shreds.
“As much as Meghan wants it all to be water off a duck’s back, these incidents have cut deep. To say it’s been a year she’d prefer to forget is a serious understatement – she can’t believe 2023 is ending like this.”
The Princes’ teenage years are front and centre in the sixth – and final – series of The Crown
Thankfully for Meghan she won’t need to worry about seeing her own Royal romance play out on screens. Back in 2020 – the year the couple stepped back as senior working royals – Peter Morgan, creator of The Crown, said the Duchess of Sussex would not be depicted in the final series because of his “20 year rule”[8], which he has in place in an effort to “distance” the show from the actual events.
He said: “I just think you get so much more interesting (with time). Meghan and Harry are in the middle of their journey, and I don’t know what their journey is or how it will end,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
