Queens Drive closed after car smashes into lamppost

Queens Drive in Liverpool remains closed after a car crashed into a lamppost. The accident happened on Saturday morning on December 16 and scattered debris across the road. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Services arrived at the crash at 10am.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue said: “North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) attended the scene and provided the occupants with precautionary checks, all were deemed fit and well. “Queens Drive was closed southbound by Merseyside Police between Woolton[1] Road and Menlove Avenue. A recovery company was then requested for the vehicle and they attended shortly after.

External handover was then completed and Merseyside Police remain in attendance until the lamp post is made safe.”

The closure of Queens Drive, which is a major road connecting north and south Liverpool, has led to a build up of traffic while the clean up operation is underway.

In a statement, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: “Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended an incident on the morning of Saturday, December 16, along Queens Drive, Liverpool. Crews were alerted at 09.59am with two fire engines and the search and rescue team on scene at 10.07am.

“This was a one vehicle road traffic collision (RTC) with a lamp post. All persons were out of the vehicle prior to Fire Service arrival. North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) also attended and provided the occupants with precautionary checks, all were deemed fit and well.”

The statement continued: “A representative from the council was requested due to the damage of the lamp post. The incident was scaled down to one fire engine at scene, while Queens Drive was closed southbound by Merseyside Police between Woolton Road and Menlove Avenue. A recovery company was then requested for the vehicle and they attended shortly after.

Crews left the scene at 11.36am.”
