Road closed as girl airlifted to hospital after ‘concern for safety’

A road is closed in both directions after a girl was airlifted to hospital following concerns for her safety. Cheshire Police were called to Watkinson Way in Widnes[1] at around 1.52pm on Friday, December 8, following concerns of the safety of a girl. Emergency services including Cheshire Police, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and the North West Ambulance Service were called to the scene.

An air ambulance also attended the scene and a girl was airlifted to hospital. Cheshire Police are asking motorists to avoid the area while they attend the scene.

Both Watkinson Way and John Collins Way are closed in both directions by the emergency services.

A spokesperson from Cheshire Police said: “At around 1.52pm today (Friday 8 December) police were called to concerns of the safety of a girl on Watkinson Way, Widnes. Emergency services are in attendance and the girl has been taken to hospital via helimed. “Road closures are currently in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.”

A spokesperson from Cheshire Fire Service said: “Firefighters are currently at the scene of an incident on A557 Watkinson Way in Widnes. The road is currently closed in both directions. Please avoid the area if possible.”
