San Antonio police officer hospitalized following major crash caused by DWI suspect

SAN ANTONIO - A San Antonio police officer was hospitalized after a DWI suspect caused a major crash on the Southeast Side. The crash happened around 9:00 p.m. Friday near Southeast Military and South Presa Street.

According to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), the officer was dispatched to a burglary call when he cut through the intersection traveling westbound with his lights and sirens on. Police say a driver in a black Nissan truck traveling eastbound tried to make a left-hand turn going North, cut in front of the officer, and t-boned him causing a major accident. The officer suffered from head trauma and was transported to SAMMC with serious injuries.

Police say they received an update from EMS stating the officer's vitals are good and he is in stable condition.

According to SAPD, the driver, Trinidad Huerta was evaluated and arrested for DWI.
