Sault police see some success from Drive Sober campaign

While provincial police are sharing concerns about the recent rise in impaired driving[1] with more than 10,000 charges laid so far in 2023 - a 16 per cent increase over last year - and more than 1,200 in the last seven weeks, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service[2] is seeing some success in their 'Drive Sober' campaign as part of the festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) initiative this holiday season. Sault Ste.

"Five Highway Traffic Act tickets were issued," said police.

Sault police's 'Drive Sober' campaign has been educating and reminding the public to be safe. "Remember: driving high is driving impaired," reads a recent social media post[4]. The police service also advised if you are celebrating the holiday season with some 'beverages' to plan ahead.

Sault police offered the following tips:

  • Designate a sober driver
  • Don't bring your vehicle
  • Take public transit, a cab, or a rideshare service
  • Stay overnight
