Scot, 49, arrested over ‘murder’ after body found in English canal
A SCOT has been arrested and later bailed in connection with an alleged murder after a body was discovered in an English canal. The 49-year-old, from Dundee[1], was arrested by Staffordshire[2] Police in suspicion of murder[3] and later released on conditional police bail after questioning.

The incident took place close to Sutherland Road in Longston, near Leak
Local officers said they received a report of a body[4] of a man which had been spotted in the canal on Sutherland Road, close to Longsdon, near Leek, shortly before 9am on Sunday. It is understood that man was in his 40s and his family[5] are being supported by specially-trained officers at this time.
Cops[6] said they believe the dead man had been walking[7] next to the canal after leaving the nearby Hollybush Inn in Denford. The force said in a statement: “Officers went to the scene with colleagues from Staffordshire Fire[8] and Rescue Service and paramedics[9] from West Midlands Ambulance[10] Service.
“Sadly, the body of a man in his 40s was found at the scene.”His family are being supported by specially-trained officers at this traumatic time. “A 49-year-old man, from Dundee[11], was arrested on suspicion of murder.
He was questioned about what happened and was later released on conditional police bail.” Detective Inspector Nathan Hough said officers are keeping an open mind as he paid his respects to the man and his family. He said: “My thoughts and condolences are very much with the man’s family at this deeply distressing time.
I can’t imagine what they are feeling right now.

“We have been speaking to people in the area, looking over CCTV[13] and carrying out enquiries to find out more.
“We’re particularly interested in speaking to anyone who was in the area between Saturday evening and Sunday morning.”
