All traffic was temporarily held in both directions from junction 14 at Tonge to the M1 on Monday, December 18. Leicestershire Police warned on social media at around 11.16am that the road was shut “due to a serious RTC”.

Two lorries had collided on the northbound side, prompting fire crews, ambulances and highway officers to descend onto the scene. One driver became trapped in the cab of his lorry and had to be rescued. The road remained closed for several hours while the rescue operation was underway.
