Serious crash closes M1 southbound by airport

The M1 has been closed southbound near Luton airport after a serious collision between a car and a lorry.

National Highways said the busy motorway, between junctions 11 and 10, in Bedfordshire, shut at 05:46 GMT.

Emergency services are at the scene and the road is expected to be closed during the morning, it added.

National Highways advised motorists and airport users to plan ahead and allow extra journey time.

Diversions are currently in place.
