Ski-mask man robs Newmarket petrol station with gun and knife
Cash and cigarettes were stolen in an armed robbery at a petrol station that involved a man in a ski mask brandishing a handgun and a knife. It happened at the Shell garage on Newmarket High Street in Suffolk at 19:15 GMT on Tuesday. The area was searched by police upon arrival, but they could not find the suspect and no arrests were made.
Police have appealed for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the time of the robbery to get in touch. The man wore dark jeans, a light-coloured hooded top with the hood up, as well as a black ski mask with small eye holes. He put a large, Army-style camouflaged rucksack on to the counter and told a staff member to fill it with cash and cigarettes before leaving.
Det Insp Cat Thompson said: “Detectives investigating this serious offence are exploring any forensic, CCTV and other opportunities that may be available. “We understand the nature of this robbery will cause concern to residents. Additional uniform patrols have been put in place in the area and residents are welcome to approach officers to ask questions, share their concerns or ask for crime safety advice.”
