Somerset man turns self in after multi-car crash, charged with DUI

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WLNE) — The Portsmouth Police Department said an 18-year-old Somerset man turned himself in on a warrant for a multi-car crash that occurred Dec.
2. David Menezes was charged with driving under the influence resulting in serious bodily injury and reckless driving. The department said that around 8 p.m. on Dec.
2 police responded to the area of West Main Road at the Mail Coach Road for a crash involving three vehicles. Officers who arrived at the scene said that in one of the cars was Menezes and multiple juveniles, one of whom was seriously injured. Menezes also suffered serious injuries, while the other two passengers only suffered minor injures.
Police said that Menezes allegedly attempted to pass another vehicle by entering the southbound lane while traveling northbound, and collided head on with a car traveling south. The two cars then crashed into another vehicle, and the drivers of the other vehicles suffered minor injuries. Police said that at the scene Menezes “exhibited multiple signs of alcohol impairment to include the strong odor of alcohol emanating from his breath.”
There were also allegedly multiple empty “nip” alcohol containers as well as marijuana in the car. Menezes was arraigned released after posting bail that had been set at £5,500. He is expected back in court on Dec.
14.
