Southend best option in Essex for booking a driving test

The region is struggling more than anywhere else in Britain. New drivers are struggling to book practical tests due to several factors including a huge backlog accrued during the pandemic period. Data released from the Drivers and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has revealed it takes an average of 22.55 weeks after booking a test to take it in the region.

This is a massive five months, which is up a huge 10.73 weeks in the past 12 months. Analysis of the area includes wait times in Southend and Norwich and covers all centres in Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Norfolk. The special report is the second on the topic produced by Adrian Flux, one of the UK’s largest motor insurance brokers, and compares the miserable backlogs across three countries.

A spokesman for Adrian Flux said: “Thankfully there still some fairly decent options you might want to consider in the area. “Southend is the best option in Essex at four weeks and Norwich Jupiter Road and Peachman Way are the best options in Norfolk.” Certain options are available to aid anticipant drivers in securing their test and getting on the road.

An app called ‘Teste’ can help, as it picks up on changes in the schedule and users can choose to receive notifications about changes at their test centre.

New dates for examinations are released every Monday morning at 6 am by the DVSA but only include dates six months in advance.
