Speeding drivers targeted in Ramsbottom, Elton, Radcliffe operation …
Police carried out an operation in Ramsbottom, Elton, and Radcliffe to catch drivers breaking the speed limit. Officers from Bury's Neighbourhood Crime Team patrolled the roads in the area that had been reported by members of the community as speeding hotspots. Eight motorists are reported to have been caught breaking the speed limit and were issued speeding tickets, police said.
Typically, if a motorist is caught by a speed camera, then within 14 days the registered keeper will be sent a notice of intended prosecution or section 172 notice. Depending on the speed, once a driver has responded to the notice they will be sent an option for a speed awareness course, a fixed penalty notice or a letter telling them to go to court.
If a driver is stopped by the police, officers can give a verbal warning, send a fixed penalty notice, offer a speed awareness course, or order the driver to go to court. The minimum penalty for speeding is GBP100 fine and three points added to your licence.
Receiving 12 or more points within three years may disqualify you from driving. If you're a newly qualified driver and receive six points during the first two years after passing your test, your licence will automatically be revoked. To get it back you'll need to apply and pay for a new provisional licence and pass both theory and practical tests again.
