Speeding party driver jailed over horror crash likened to ‘film stunt gone wrong’
A speeding driver was jailed after a crash saw him launch off a roundabout, fly over a car, through a garage and plough into a garden in an accident compared to a botched film stunt. Police described the crash, caused by Tadiwanashe Everjoy Matemadombo, as “scenes akin to a movie stunt gone wrong”. The 24-year-old lost control of his black Vauxhall Astra as he returned from a party in Warwickshire[1] with two women passengers.
Both suffered serious injuries. CCTV footage put Matemadombo’s speed at 84mph in a 40mph area, police said. Shocking pictures[2] released by Warwickshire Police showed the aftermath of the crash, which happened in 2021. Get breaking news on BirminghamLive WhatsApp[4]
Officers were said to have struggled to locate the Coventry driver “for some time” after he left hospital. A Warwickshire Police spokesperson said on December 19: “In scenes akin to a movie stunt gone wrong, 24-year-old Tadiwanashe Everjoy Matemadombo, who was 22 at the time, lost control of the black Vauxhall Astra he was driving. “[He hit] the middle of a roundabout and was propelled off the ground passing over a parked car, through a brick built garage and over the garden behind it into an adjacent residential garden where the car landed on its side.”

It happened at 3.30am on July 4, 2021 on the A429 at Wellesbourne, at the junction with Bradley Walk, after he had left a party in Ettington. Police arrived to find Matemadombo still in the vehicle. The front seat passenger managed to get herself out of the car, but the rear seat passenger was unconscious and was removed from the car by officers.
All three occupants were taken to hospital for assessment and treatment. Matemadombo, of Gun Lane, Coventry was jailed for 20 months, banned from driving for two years and ordered to pay a GBP156 victim surcharge after appearing at Warwick Crown Court on December 13. He admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Speaking following sentencing, Pc Drew Ballantyne said: “The standard of Matemadombo’s driving fell far below that of a reasonable and competent driver – it was dangerous. He had no consideration for his passengers or the public. “After he left hospital officers were unable to locate Mr Matemadombo for some time.
I am pleased he has now faced the court where he pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
We hope the two female passengers take some comfort from the sentence. “
