Stanley Road Primary School welcome police after crash
Officers discussed road safety with children from Stanley Road Primary School. The visit came after the six-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being involved in a collision with a car in Stanley Road at around 3pm on Friday, November 24[1]. The last update by doctors to West Mercia Police revealed the boy was expected to make a full recovery.
Police from the Worcestershire Neighbourhood Team shared a picture of the visit and said: “Today, PC Davey, PCSO Carnemolla and PC Redman have attended Stanley Road Primary School to discuss road safety with the children.” Police talk to children at Stanley Road Primary School (Image: Twitter: @WorcesterSNTs) The incident led some readers to criticise the lack of a crossing patrol outside the school – although there is a crossing patrol nearby in Midland Road.[2]
A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council said: “The previous school crossing patrol site on Stanley Road junction with Wylds Lane has been continually reassessed since 2021 and has not met the national criteria for a school crossing patrol. “The criteria recommended for use by Road Safety GB looks at numbers of pedestrians and vehicles in the area at its busiest times, and a threshold number has to be reached for the criteria to be met. “There is, however, a school crossing patrol site associated with Stanley Road Primary School on Midland Road at which a new patrol started earlier this month.
We have offered road safety education to all pupils at the school.” Officers are appealing for witnesses following the crash which involved a Ford Fiesta. Investigating officers are appealing for information from the public including dash-cam footage after the pedestrian was hurt.
