Stranger’s act of kindness to Aldi shopper leaves him ‘gobsmacked’

A stranger’s act of kindness at an Aldi supermarket in Wales left a shopper ‘gobsmacked’. Stephen Lee, from Wrexham[1], said he had been out shopping at Aldi but when he reached the till his cash card was playing up and it wouldn’t process the payment. He also didn’t have any cash on him to cover the shop.

The cashier said he would speak to the manager to see what they could do. He then waited around wondering what would happen. After waiting a short time he was given his receipt and says he was told that his shop had been paid for by the person behind him at the checkout.

Mr Lee said he was “absolutely gobsmacked”, North Wales Live reports[2]. He thanked the man but says he would love for him to get in touch so he can thank him properly. He’s appealed on Facebook[3] group Wrexham Town Matters to see if he can be tracked down.

His message touched the hearts of hundreds of people who liked the post. Mr Lee posted: “I went to Aldi to do some shopping this morning(Saturday) and when I got to the checkout to pay my card would not work and I had no cash on me so the lad on the till said ‘if you wait there I will get the manager’. So I stood there wondering what would happen and all of a sudden the lad on the till said ‘here is your receipt, your shopping has been paid for’.

“It turned out the man behind me at the till had paid for my shopping. I was absolutely gobsmacked and in shock really. I thanked the man and walked out because I could not really believe what just happened so if the man reads this please get in touch so I can thank you properly!”

In response, Angela Mills, said: “Lovely gesture, very kind, well done to this gentleman.”

Emma Abbott said: “I had this happen to me ..and then passed it on when I had the chance.

The first restored my faith that good people exist, the second felt just as good to be able to help someone else feel the same.”
