Suspect named after woman killed on city centre street

A man was charged over the death of a woman hit by a car in Liverpool. The 92-year-old died[1] after the incident in the city's Georgian Quarter on Sunday, December 3. Emergency services were called to the crash which involved a blue Ford Focus car at around 5.55pm on Canning Street,[2] near the junction of Catharine Street after a woman suffered life-threatening injuries.

Police later[3] confirmed the woman had died from her injuries on Sunday evening. A 33-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested.

Police today said they have now charged Mohamed Mahadi, 33, of Whithorn Street, Wavertree[6] with causing death by careless/inconsiderate driving, and causing death by driving an unlicensed/uninsured vehicle.

He was remanded into custody to appear at Wirral[7] Magistrates Court today (Tuesday, December 5), and was further remanded to appear at magistrates court again on January 2, 2024.
