Teen arrested after Whitleigh armed police incident
An 18-year-old local man is currently in custody after armed police were called to a property in Whitleigh[1] last night. Witnesses spoke of seeing a large police presence in the Whitleigh area of Plymouth on Wednesday evening, with some claiming to have seen more than a dozen police vehicles and “a riot van” – a term often used by the public for a police carrier vehicle. PlymouthLive understands the matter originated with a dispute between two people.
Shortly before 8pm a male attended an address in the Ford area of Wolseley Road, near to the Lidl store, where he made a number of threats while in possession of a knife.
He then left the area and following reports to police, armed officers attended a Whitleigh address where a young man was arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of an blade in a public place. A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police[4] said: “Police were notified at around 7.50pm to reports of threats to harm being made on Wolseley Road in Plymouth.
“Due to nature of the threats, armed officers attended the scene and an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place.”
The young man is currently in custody at Charles Cross police station custody suite and is awaiting interview.
