A teenager has died in a horrifying crash after his car struck a guardrail on a major motorway before the vehicle burst into flames.

The 17-year-old boy was driving along the M5 Motorway near Revesby in Sydney[2]‘s south-west before he lost control of the car on Friday around 11:30pm.

The Mitsubishi Evo crashed into the barrier on the motorway before the sedan went up in flames on impact.

Paramedics rushed to the scene but the boy could not be saved.

There were no passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The horrifying collision set alight nearby grass and tress before fire fighters from the NSW[3] Rural Fire Service arrived to douse the flames.

NSW Police set up a crime scene and closed eastbound lanes on the motorway following the incident.

A report is expected to be prepared for the coroner as investigations into the fatal crash continue.

Police have urged anyone with information or dashcam footage of the crash to come forward.

The teenager’s death comes after another man died in a motorcycle crash in a separate incident around an hour later in the state’s north on Saturday.
