Teens arrested in connection with city stabbing of 16-year-old
Four boys have been arrested in connection with a stabbing in Leicester city centre on Wednesday evening. A 16-year-old boy remains in hospital after the incident, which happened at around 5.30pm on November 29. Officers previously arrested[1] a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent, and violent disorder, a 36-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman on suspicion of GBH with intent, and a second woman, aged 33, on suspicion of GBH without intent.
The force has since arrested four more youths, aged 17, on suspicion of GBH and violent disorder. All eight suspects have been released on bail pending further inquiries. Granby Street was busy at the time of the incident, police said, and witnesses are being sought to assist the investigation.
A video showing part of the incident was circulated online, prompting the force to urge people not to share it further nor speculate about the circumstances surrounding the assault. Instead, those with information are asked to contact the police. Detective Sergeant Jim Muzzell, from the Complex Investigation team[3], said: “Our inquiries continue, and, despite these arrests, we are still keen to speak to anyone who may have any information relating to this incident, in particular, anyone who has phone footage or dash cam footage and hasn’t as yet spoken to police, to please get in touch with us.
“Granby Street would have been very busy at this particular time of the evening and there would have been lots of people who were passing through the area who would have been aware of what was going on and may have been scared and concerned. “This is a serious incident and our officers continue to gather evidence as part of the investigation so we are keen to hear from anyone who has passing by the scene as the incident unfolded and has been directly affected by what happened. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting 23*737531 or reporting via the website, www.leics.police.uk.
