The Birmingham postcode where someone is attacked every week with no age range safe
Exclusive new West Midlands Ambulance Service data has revealed the five ‘worst’ postcodes in Birmingham for attacks and the shocking ages – both young and old – of some victims. In the area recording the highest number of assaults, someone is hurt more than once a week on average, according to the data. Paramedics were alerted to 46 attacks in the B21 area – covering Handsworth, Lozells, Newtown and Birchfield – in the 39 weeks between January and October this year.
Over that time period, a total of 737 assaults in Birmingham postcodes were reported to the service – meaning more than six per cent of all reported assaults happened in B21. A victim between the age of ten and 19 was attacked in the area during that timeframe. And data also revealed a shocking attack on a child aged nine or under in the city’s fourth ‘worst’ hit postcode.
An ambulance was sent to help the injured youngster in the B14 area, covering Druids Heath, Kings Heath[1] and Yardley[2] Wood. Meanwhile in B24 Erdington[4] – number five on the list – an elderly victim between 90 and 90 was attacked in 2023. According to the data, the B23 and B21 areas consistently recorded the most attacks in recent years – with both landing in the top three in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
The B23 postcode was the location of the highest number of assaults in both 2022 and 2021, with a total of 44 and 136 respectively. Below are the most recent figures for 2023 – up to October, including the age categories of those assaulted.
