Three-car smash CLOSES part of major Scots motorway as two rushed to hospital

TWO people have been rushed to hospital after a three-car horror smash closed part of a major Scots motorway. Emergency services[1] raced to the scene early this morning, near Shawhead.

Ambulances took two people to Wishaw General Hospital[2]. Their current condition is unknown.

Cops[3] closed all lanes of the M8 eastbound near junction 7a while emergency crews dealt with the crash at around 10.25 am. Traffic Scotland[4] confirmed later that two lanes of the busy road were opened to allow traffic to pass. All lanes reopened at 11.40am after emergency crews had finished dealing with the incident.

Police confirmed that one man has been arrested in connection with a road traffic offence.

A Police Scotland[5] spokesperson said: “Around 10.25am on Saturday, 9 December, 2023, officers were called to a report of a three-vehicle crash on the M8 near junction 7a. “Emergency services attended and two people were taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital[6]. “One man has been arrested in connection with a road traffic offence.”
