Three taken to hospital after A66 Middlesbrough crash

Emergency services were called to the A-road in Middlesbrough, near the A178 slip road, Hartington interchange, following reports of a crash on the stretch of road. Police warned drivers that the road would be closed for ‘some time’, with the A66 partly opening to traffic. The North East Ambulance Service has confirmed that three people have been taken to hospital, with some of the casualties treated at the scene by air ambulance crews, who also attended.

All three of the casualties were taken to hospital via road ambulance. A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 8.38am this morning (Wednesday 6 December) to reports of a road traffic incident on the A66 in Middlesbrough. “We dispatched three ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic, a clinical leader, and requested the support of our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) who attended via air.

Click here for more info.[1] Cleveland Fire Brigade also confirmed that one person had to be cut out of their vehicle, with firefighters leaving the scene at around 9.50am. A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Cleveland Fire Brigade were called on at 08.38am to a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) on A66 eastbound, A178 slip road, Hartington interchange Middlesbrough.

“Four fire engines were in attendance from Middlesbrough, Stockton and Thornaby to a four-vehicle RTC. Police and NEAS were in attendance. One casualty was extricated by crews and handed over to NEAS.

We had left the scene by 09.47am.”
