Three teens dead and two critical after crash between car and bus in Wales

Three teenagers have died and two are in a life-threatening condition in hospital after a crash between a car and a bus in Wales. It happened at around 7pm on Monday in Elwyn Street in Coedely, Tonyrefail. On Tuesday morning South Wales Police[1] said that three men, two aged 18 and one aged 19, were declared dead at the scene.

Two more, aged 18 and 19, were taken to hospital in Cardiff with life-threatening injuries, reports WalesOnline[2]. Two other people were also treated for minor injuries. The road has remained closed while investigations into the collision continue.

Superintendent Esyr Jones of South Wales Police said: "Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragic incident. Trained family liaison officers are supporting the families at what must be an extremely difficult time for them." Anyone who witnessed the collision or the manner in which either vehicle was being driven prior to it, has been asked to contact South Wales Police.

In addition, anyone with any dash cam or mobile phone footage or who was witness to the crash is asked to contact the force, quoting reference 2300420639. The Welsh Ambulance Service said the incident happened at around 7pm and involved a head-on collision. Alex Davies-Jones, MP for Pontypridd[3], thanked all the emergency services, first responders and members of the public who tried to help at the scene.

She said: "Utterly devastating news coming from our community this morning. All of my thoughts are with the families and loved ones affected by this tragedy. Thank you to all the emergency services, first responders and members of the public who tried to help last night.

Please be aware that the road is still closed whilst the investigation is ongoing.

My office is doing all we can to support efforts locally."
