PC Taylor responded to a 999 call in Swindon about men climbing over a fence and going onto train tracks (Image: Wiltshire Police) Trains in Swindon[1] had to be stopped after police responded to reports of trespassers on the tracks. PC Taylor responded to a 999 call about two to three men going over a fence and onto the railway lines at some point between the start of Friday night and the early hours of Saturday morning.

British Transport Police staff attended the scene and assisted the officer due to the dangers of being near the tracks. Trains that were due to travel along this part of the line were stopped so that the track could be made safe enough for checks to be carried out by British Transport Police, who found and removed metal debris on the line. There have been no reported injuries.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said at 1.50am on Saturday: “PC Taylor would like to remind everyone that it is NOT safe to trespass on the railway. “It is illegal and dangerous. You could be taken to court and face a fine of GBP1,000.

“This is because if someone trespasses, all trains have to be stopped in the vicinity to remove the trespassers, check for damage, and clear blockages.
