A house was partly destroyed in an explosion on Saturday morning Two people have been injured after a house explosion in Merseyside, emergency services have said. A fire broke out in a first floor bedroom at about 07:40 GMT in Holt Road, Tranmere, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) said.

All occupants left the property before fire crews arrived – although two people needed treatment by paramedics and were taken to hospital. Nearby houses have been evacuated with gas and electric supplies isolated. Residents have been offered temporary accommodation by Wirral Council.

A MFRS representative said an investigation had been launched which “could take some time to establish the cause”. A building inspection has also been undertaken due to safety concerns for nearby structures in Holt Road.
