Two extracted from cars after Durham Road, Leadgate crash

Emergency services converged on Durham Road in Leadgate near Consett[1] this evening just before 6pm following reports of a crash involving multiple vehicles. Firefighters at the scene from County Durham and Darlington Fire & Rescue Service confirmed that two people were extracted from cars following the collision. Multiple police cars have also been pictured at the scene. A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called to a road traffic collision tonight (22 December) shortly before 6pm. We dispatched two ambulance crews, one clinical team leader and one crew from HART (Hazardous Area Response Team).

“Two patients were taken to University Hospital of North Durham.” One witness who drove past the scene said: “The crash appears to have involved two cars, and there are still multiple police officers at the scene. “The road is still closed off to other cars.”

The North East Ambulance Service and Durham Police have been contacted for more information.
