Two men arrested following early-hours street fight on Newland Avenue

Two men have been arrested following a ‘street fight’ in Hull which saw one of them sustain a laceration to his head. Police received reports of an altercation on Newland Avenue at around 1.20am on Sunday morning. One man was taken to hospital to be treated for a laceration to his head, and a woman was also treated at the scene for injuries which are not thought to be serious.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of assault and remain in police custody. A police cordon was in place throughout Sunday[1] outside a row of shops close to the junction with Lambert Street. Crime scene investigators were also at the scene, along with council cleaners focusing on what appeared to be a large stain on the pavement.

Humberside Police[2] is now appealing for any witnesses to the incident to contact them. A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “Two men have been arrested following reports of an altercation on Newland Avenue at around 1.20am this morning. “It is believed two men were fighting in the street, and one of the men allegedly sustained a laceration to the head during the incident.

He was taken to hospital to receive treatment to his injuries which are not thought to be serious. “A woman is also believed to have been injured during the altercation and was treated at the scene for injuries which are not thought to be serious. “The two men have been arrested on suspicion of assault and remain in police custody.

“If anyone witnessed the incident, please contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 33 of 17 December.”
