Two men ‘seriously’ injured after reported street attacks

A man was rushed to hospital with ‘serious injuries’ as violence broke out in the street after a car crash in Leigh. Emergency services, including police and paramedics, were called to Maple Crescent at around 11.50pm on Sunday (December 17), Greater Manchester Police[1] said. Police responded to reports of an assault in the street, in which one man was found to have sustained serious injuries.

It is understood a further two people sustained minor injuries.

The Manchester Evening News understands that the violence broke out following a collision involving three cars. A scene remained in place throughout Monday with a forensics tent also erected outside a property.

There’s been no update on the condition of the man who was hospitalised and it’s not been disclosed whether any weapons were involved. One man remains in custody after being arrested on suspicion of assault.

Greater Manchester Police said ‘enquiries remain ongoing’ to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and are urging anyone with any information to contact them. In a statement, the force said: “On Sunday 17 December 2023 at around 11:50pm, officers were called to reports of an assault on Maple Crescent in Leigh.

Officers attended the scene, and a male was taken to hospital with serious injuries. “A male has since been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for further questioning. Enquiries remain ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
