Two women died in a tragic West Midlands crash on Boxing Day in which a baby was also taken to hospital. The collision involved a a BMW 4 Series, an MG ZS and a quad bike. Two women – both passengers in the MG – were pronounced dead at the scene.

One was in her 40s and the other in her 70s. The crash in Shard End happened at the junction of Kitt’s Green Road, and Mackadown Lane. It happened shortly after 8pm on Tuesday, December 26.

Four other people – including a young child – were taken to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. West Midlands Police say the driver of the BMW left the scene.

However, a short time later a man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Officers say he is currently in hospital. He will be spoken to when medically fit to be questioned, the force say.

Police say that another man has also been arrested for assisting an offender. He is currently in custody for questioning. Furthermore, the quad bike also left the scene.

Detectives are carrying out enquiries to identify and trace the rider. A police spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this devastating time and we’ll be offering as much support as we can.” Det Sgt Julie Lyman, from the serious collision investigation unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with the families who have been affected by this awful collision.

It remains vital that we fully establish exactly what happened with all the vehicles involved, so I’d ask the rider of the quad bike to get in touch as I believe you are a key witness to the tragic events which have occurred.” Anyone with any dashcam footage, or with any information about what happened, is asked to contact police by calling 101 or via Live Chat on their website quoting 2873 of 26/12/23.
