UK Border Force intercepted parcels of Class A drugs sent to crack cocaine laboratory in Nottinghamshire

A drug dealer was rumbled after parcels of drugs were tracked to a laboratory producing crack cocaine in Nottinghamshire. Police[1] raided a home in Lily Lane, Newark[2], in May 2021 after UK Border Force officers intercepted five parcels of Class A drugs which were addressed to the property. Officers discovered a huge amount of drugs after forcing their way into the property, including cocaine[3] with a street value of GBP12,000, a kilogram of cannabis, MDMA and amphetamines. They found lab equipment including glass beakers, a magnetic stirrer, deal bags and a machine to package the drugs in the property’s garage.

It is believed the laboratory was being used to produce cocaine and other drugs. Evidence on mobile phones found in the raid led detectives to the door of Mahtar Sohna – with a further warrant being executed at his home in Blyton Walk, Bestwood[4], Nottingham. Police found further amounts of cocaine and cannabis as well as drug dealing equipment inside his home. Evidence found on Sohna’s mobile phone revealed his involvement in the production, manufacture and sale of Class A drugs. Sohna, 50, of Blyton Walk, was jailed for a total of six years when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Wednesday (December 13).

He had previously pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, ketamine, cannabis and diazepam.

Detective Constable Lauren Carpenter, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Sohna was very heavily involved in the wholesale supply of a range of illicit drugs. “Experienced neighbourhood officers were shocked by the volume of drugs they found in the initial raid in Newark, as well as by the sophisticated laboratory which had been set up. Following the evidence found in the raid, we were able to prove Sohna’s involvement in this criminal enterprise.

“The evidence extracted from mobile phones, involving many hours of painstaking detective work, was crucial in cracking the case and bringing him to justice. Class A drugs continue to destroy lives and cause immeasurable harm in our communities. “It is always a good result when we can take drugs off the streets and put drugs factories like this out of use.

Criminals like Sohna make their profits from the misery of vulnerable addicts, so I am pleased he has been put behind bars for a significant period of time.”
